There are lots of types of frogs in the world, but which one is the best? Keep reading, because we have to find out. Did you know that some frogs, under circumstances, can jump on water 1-2 times? Did you know that all frogs are amphibians? That there are more than 5,000 species of frogs in the world? Let’s choose from three popular species to talk about. The biggest frog, the Goliath frog, is native to West Africa. The American Bullfrog is native to the USA, and the Poison Dart Frog is native to the Amazon rainforest.
First, the Goliath frog, A.K.A the giant slippery frog. As I just said, it is native to West Africa. Goliath means “very big”, and it’s fitting, because the Goliath frog is big. It is a species of frog in the family called Noctuidae. Not only are Goliath frogs big, they are also really old, at least as a species. They have been around for 1.6 million years before humans, and just for reference, dinosaurs lived 165 million years before us. Their natural habitat is in big ponds or lakes. The Goliath frog is the largest living frog; they can reach up to about 35 centimetres in length and 3 kilograms in weight. They’re massive!
Now, our next victim, the American bullfrog. It likes to live in swamps, lakes, and ponds, similar to the Goliath. It gets its name from the sound it makes when it croaks. People say that it sounds like a bull. Bullfrogs are commonly used in dissection classes at schools because they are an invasive species all around the world. They are good predators because their green-brown skin blends in with the swamp, but that means that finding them for dissection classes is a little hard. A lot of the time they get confused with mink frogs, but they are not the same. They eat most insects and can have up to 1000 eggs at a time.
Finally, the poison dart frog. The poison dart frog’s scientific name is dendrobatidae. They usually live in humid and tropical environments in Central and South America. The poison dart frog is the smallest frog in the world. The toxin in their poison is so strong that it can instantly stop a human heart. They eat fruit flies, termites, ants and young crickets. Some species of poison dart frogs are deadly to humans.
Some frogs have special abilities to help them survive in the wild. Frogs have come a long way to prove that. In conclusion, we couldn’t decide which frog is the best but we have decided that all frogs are amazing.
