The BC elections happened recently with a small majority coalition (combination of two parties) government between the Green Party and the New Democratic Party (NDP). The Conservatives are in opposition (that means they are the biggest party that’s not leading the province.) The race was tight with 46 ridings (areas of the province that divide who votes) going to the NDP, 45 ridings going to the Conservatives, and 2 ridings going to the Greens. 47 ridings were needed to make a government so that is why the Greens and NDP worked together. Thanks to that, the NDP/Green coalition will lead BC.
What we expect from the government this time around, is a government that actually follows through with its campaign and works to improve this province. For instance, they have promised to lower housing prices.
Housing prices are a big problem in BC, especially in the lower mainland. The population of many places in BC are slowing down or stopping growth because nobody is moving here. If nobody comes, no new jobs are filled. If no new jobs are filled, the economy starts to stop.
Another problem that BC faces is generally expensive prices. Gas prices are one of the biggest problems we have, as they have only been going up.
If lowering prices becomes a difficult task, the government must at least attempt to find ways to raise salaries without making the currency (Canadian Dollar) less valuable. For instance, the government could try to slightly raise salaries of government workers. This would help government workers live a bit of an easier life. That would make products easier to buy for government workers. These are my beliefs, but also the beliefs of many B.C. citizens.
