This past school year has been full of new and popular music. Although I couldn’t get the entire student body’s opinion on their favourite song, I did get around 50 from intermediate. From the entire intermediate grade, the most popular song was ‘I Can Do It With A Broken Heart, by Taylor Swift. The song is a fairly new song, only about a month old. It comes from the album The Tortured Poets Department, which came out on April 19, 2024. The runner ups for most popular intermediate songs are also by Ms. Swift, with So Long, London, Wonderland, and Love Story. So Long, London is from the same album as I Can Do It With A Broken Heart, but Wonderland is from the album 1989, Taylor’s Version. 1989 Taylor’s Version is also a newer album, as it came out on October 27, 2023, making it about seven months old. The last runner up was Love Story, coming from the album Fearless. Fearless came out in 2008, so it is almost 16 years old!

Within the school year, there have also been multiple different artists that have surged in popularity. The most popular artist, by 19 votes, is Taylor Swift. The runner ups for top artist include Olivia Rodrigo, and Ed Sheeran. As you already know, Taylor Swift came out with a new album about a month ago, but what you may not know is that The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology is her longest album, with RED Taylor’s Version in succession.
